Some valleys are from circumstances beyond our control, while others come from the choices we make. After Israel’s victory at Jericho, they were unexpectedly defeated at Ai. The problem was not military strategy but hidden sin: Achan had taken items God had forbidden and buried them in his tent. His disobedience brought consequences not only to himself, but to the whole community. God needed to deal with what was hidden in order to bring restoration.
