Jesus declares that we are the “salt” and “light” of the world. During Jesus’ time, salt was a very valuable commodity since it was used to keep food from rotting. Light is able to pierce darkness. Furthermore, both salt and light can be used to heal and clean. This means that as His followers, we are to have a positive influence in society by living distinctly (holy living) demonstrating God’s truth and goodness to those around us.
