Summary
The Shift from Advertising Agencies to Influencer Marketing
Amy Lanzi, CEO of Digitoss, discusses how the advertising landscape is shifting with more ad dollars being directed towards creators and influencers rather than traditional agencies. She emphasizes that companies like Digitoss are focusing on understanding audiences and building authentic connections through these platforms. The conversation highlights the impact of the growing influencer economy and the necessity for agencies to adapt to this change.
Automating Influencer Marketing with Technology
The podcast delves into the acquisition of Influential by Publicis Groupe, which is part of a larger trend where massive advertising companies are investing in technology to streamline the influencer marketing process. Lanzi explains how AI can be utilized to identify the right influencers for brands at scale, creating a more efficient method for connecting brands with their audiences.
Defining Creators versus Influencers
Lanzi differentiates between 'creators' and 'influencers' based on audience size and engagement. The term 'influencer' is often reserved for those with larger followings, while 'creators' can encompass those with smaller, committed audiences. This distinction is important for brands when deciding how to collaborate with individuals in the marketing space.
The Role of Platforms in Advertising Evolution
The conversation shifts to the evolving role of advertising platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Lanzi discusses the necessity for brands to engage authentically on these platforms and the risks associated with over-reliance on paid partnerships. She highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of a brand’s voice and the potential consequences of losing that authenticity.
The Future of Content Creation and Advertising
In the final discussions, the podcast covers the future of content creation under the influence of AI and how brands must navigate this changing landscape. Lanzi expresses a cautious optimism about how these new technologies can both threaten authenticity and enable new forms of storytelling. There's a consideration of the balance between volume and quality of content in order to foster genuine connections with audiences.

Show notes
Today’s episode is a little different: Digitas CEO Amy Lanzi and I recorded this conversation live on stage during advertising week in New York City at an event graciously hosted by Adweek.
I've actually been dying to talk to Amy. Digitas is one of the most important agencies in the entire advertising business with huge clients and massive influence over big platforms like Instagram and YouTube. After all, they're the ones buying the ads that keep all of those companies afloat. As you'd expect, she has a lot of thoughts about influencers, creators, AI, and everything that is going to change the advertising industry in the months and years to come.
