Summary

The Reality of Motherhood and Feeling Empty

In this section, Heather introduces the common experience of feeling like there's nothing left to give as a mom, especially during stressful or overwhelming moments. She reassures listeners they are not alone and emphasizes that God is not surprised by these feelings. Heather shares a personal story from her time at a flight museum, illustrating the chaos and exhaustion of motherhood, and underscores the importance of recognizing one's limitations and leaning on God for strength. The core message is that moms are not meant to be limitless; God's sufficiency is what sustains us.

The Power of Returning to God as the Source

Heather discusses how in her own motherhood journey, reconnecting with God regularly helped her find strength and patience. She highlights the importance of starting the day with Him, such as through a quiet time or prayer, to prepare her heart for the day ahead. Heather shares insights from her conversation with Kat Lee, who advocates for returning to the living water of God's grace throughout the day. This section emphasizes that we cannot produce enough patience, love, and energy ourselves, but God's unlimited resources are available to us when we intentionally seek Him.

The Importance of Grace and Self-Kindness in Motherhood

This part focuses on giving oneself grace instead of striving for perfection. Heather encourages moms to ask themselves what they truly need at any given moment—be it rest, support, or time with God—and to be honest about it. She advocates for returning to God's presence repeatedly, recognizing that His grace is continuous. Heather emphasizes that acknowledging our limits and leaning on God's sufficiency helps us handle daily challenges with humility and peace, reinforcing that God's power, not our own, sustains us.

Practical Tips for Spiritual Nourishment and Community Support

Heather shares practical suggestions such as waking up a few minutes earlier to connect with God, using accountability groups like Hello Mornings, and adjusting routines to fit individual stages of motherhood. She also highlights the importance of community, accountability, and small habits in maintaining spiritual health. Heather reassures listeners that the goal isn’t to be perfect but to stay connected to God's endless supply of love and strength, turning to Him consistently throughout the day.

Encouragement and Final Takeaways

In closing, Heather reassures moms that they are important but not solely responsible for their children's growth and future—God is ultimately in control. She reminds listeners to focus on the divine source of strength and to be gentle with themselves, especially when they feel exhausted or unfulfilled. Her message encourages moms to adopt a perspective of grace, to prioritize their spiritual well-being, and to remember that they serve a God who is always present, compassionate, and capable of filling their needs.

Show notes

Have you ever reached the end of the day and felt like you had absolutely nothing left to give?

Maybe it was the question, "What's for dinner?" that pushed you over the edge. Maybe it was another toddler tantrum, another sleepless night, a teenager's attitude, caring for aging parents, or simply feeling touched out after pouring into everyone else all day.

If that's you, I want you to hear this: There is nothing wrong with you. God is not surprised that you feel overwhelmed.

One of the biggest lies we believe as moms is that good moms don't get overwhelmed. Somewhere along the way, we begin acting as though we're supposed to be limitless. But only God is limitless.

I share an episode from Kat Lee that has stayed with me. As a young mom, she found herself sitting in her van in the garage, overwhelmed and in tears. She cried out to God, expecting Him to change her circumstances, but instead He gently invited her to begin preparing her heart before the day ever began. His invitation wasn't about checking off another spiritual discipline or becoming a "better Christian." It was simply an invitation to spend a few quiet moments remembering who He is, reading a few verses, praying for her children, and asking Him to help her become a conduit of His grace throughout the day.

Jesus invites us to return to Him again and again throughout the day. He is the source of Living Water that never runs dry. Whether you're feeling emptied by toddlers, teenagers, aging parents, anxiety, work, or simply the weight of everyday motherhood, His grace is still available. The goal isn't to become a mom who never runs out of energy or patience. The goal is to become a mom who knows where to go when she does.
